Sedation Dentistry in Big Rapids, MI

It is estimated that approximately 40 million Americans experience some level of anxiety regarding dental treatment. Though you may understand how important it is to seek regular dental care, feelings of dread and apprehension can make it difficult to pick up the phone and make an appointment. At our office, we offer a variety of sedation dentistry options to take feelings of fear and discomfort out of the picture so you can receive the dental care you need and deserve.

Types of Dental Sedation

Our team understands that there is no such thing as a one-size-fits-all approach to oral healthcare. On the contrary, we take the time to customize our sedation dentistry treatments to the unique needs of each of our patients. Depending on your level of dental anxiety, we may suggest one of the three following sedation options:

Nitrous oxide: Often called laughing gas, nitrous oxide is a sweet-smelling gas that is inhaled in order to produce a feeling of complete relaxation. The patient remains conscious, but may fall asleep during treatment due to the sense of euphoria induced by the gas.

Oral conscious sedation: With just one prescription oral sedative, the patient is lulled into a state of pure tranquility. While you will still be able to respond to our commands during treatment, most patients are unable to recall any of their experience after the medication as worn off.

IV sedation: This sedative is administered intravenously and is particularly helpful for more extensive or lengthy procedures. You will feel absolutely nothing as your treatment is performed, and the sense of comfortable relaxation achieved is carefully maintained throughout the procedure.

All forms of sedation at our office have been proven safe and effective, helping fearful patients discover optimal oral health in a way that leaves them feeling comfortable, relaxed, and completely at ease. We look forward to helping you, too.  Contact our Big Rapids or Reed City office for more information.
