Meet the Doctors

Robert R. Scharp, D.D.S

Dr. Scharp is originally from Belleville, MI. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Zoology from the University of Michigan in 1965 and completed his D.D.S. at the University of Michigan in 1970.

Throughout his career, he's had the privilege of working with many other talented dentists, in addition to practicing on his own. In 2014, he formed a partnership with Dr. Warren Black, and together they own both Big Rapids and Reed City Dental Health Care.

Dr. Scharp is a member of the Michigan Dental Association, and a lifetime member of the American Dental Association. In addition to practicing, he has lectured throughout the country and has served as a clinician for Siemens Dental and as an instructor for American Dental Laser.

Dr. Scharp is deeply devoted to dentistry and loves drawing on his experience to teach new dentists important skills.

With his wife of 22 years, Dr. Scharp has two children, two step-children, and nine grandchildren. His favorite pastime is spending time with his family on his farm. He also enjoys golfing, photography, and going to his grandchildren's events.

Warren Black, D.D.S.

 Originally from Detroit, MI, Dr. Black has a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and Biology, and his D.D.S. from the University of Detroit Mercy. After completing his studies, he practiced at Associated Orthodontists for four years, and then was an associate at Bright Side Dental for six years. He formed a partnership with Dr. Robert Scharp in April 2014, and together they own Big Rapids and Reed City Dental Health Care.

He has also received a certification in implant dentistry from the Misch Institute and a certification in sedation dentistry from DOCS. What's more, he has orthodontic training and extensive experience treating sleep apnea.

Every day, as Dr. Black encounters a wide range of patients, he enjoys having the opportunity to provide a vital service to the community. Outside of the office, his interests include outdoor sports, traveling with his family, and biking.

David Wagner, D.D.S.

 Originally from Midland, MI, Dr. Wagner earned his D.D.S. from the Indiana University School of Dentistry in 2010. After receiving his Doctorate he then moved to Pittsburgh and went on to receive a certificate in prosthodontics, and a Masters of Dental Science from the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine in 2013.

While in Pennsylvania completing his residency, Dr. Wagner worked at a clinic specializing in dentures, and gained extensive knowledge in prosthodontics. Since then, he has practiced general dentistry in Michigan and grown to have a special interest in dentures.

He has also published an article with the ACD entitled, "The Effect of Repeated Microwave Irradiation on the Dimensional Stability of a Specific Acrylic Denture Resin."

Dr. Wagner has one sister and one cat. His hobbies include running, mountain biking, and playing cello.

 

Alex Gould, D.M.D.

Originally from Comstock Park, MI, Dr. Gould has a Bachelor of Biochemistry degree from the University of Detroit Mercy.  While attending Detroit Mercy, Dr. Gould was a letter winner in both cross country and track and field.  He graduated as a top ten performer in school history in the 600m, 800m, 1500m, and 1 mile runs.  

Following graduation he went on to attend the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine to obtain a D.M.D.

After dental school, Dr. Gould moved back to Detroit to further his education with a one year Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency through the University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry.  During his residency he received additional training in all aspects of general dentistry.

In addition to dentistry, Dr. Gould enjoys traveling, music, sports, and being active.  Playing basketball and runnng 5K and half marathon races are two of his favorite things to do.
